This year, seasoned musicians were absent, leading to a lack of musical enjoyment due to too many people and stages being too far apart. We have experienced a lack of intimacy with the artists compared to previous years. We would like to see smaller stages and more creative, experienced musicians.
A folk festival should not be a marketing campaign to sell the greatest amount of tickets for a musical event. In our opinion, too great a number of musical genres were included in the event's marketing this year, leaving the folk genre short.
The lineup lacked artists of caliber such as John Hiatt, Lyle Lovett, John Prine, Richard Thompson, The Kennedy's, Night Watchman, Jimmy LeFave, Arlo Guthrie, Patty Larkin, Keb Mo, Eric Bibb, and more.
Perhaps this event should no longer be referred to as the Marc Broussard. A better name could be Newport Music Festival."
